The red half of Manchester will be thanking Mario Balotelli tonight for sabotaging City’s campaign.
Yet again, the petulant Italian striker stole the headlines by hugely under performing before being sent off for having picked up two yellow cards.
Balotelli, who should have been sent off in the first half for a terribly cynical two footed challenge, could now face a five match suspension.
This of course means that Balotelli may well never been seen again wearing the baby blue jersey.
Despite Balotelli’s immense talent, he regrettably spent the year dividing the dressing room and causing friction whenever possible.
With Manchester United easily beating a 10-man Queen’s Park Rangers and City losing to Arsenal today, the title will no doubt be returning to Old Trafford.
Bookmakers suggest City are now 33 to 1 to win the league title. In order for this to happen, City would have to win three more games than United with only six remaining in the season. With United having lost a mere three games in 32 matches thus far, such a situation is unlikely.
Barring an epic meltdown, which simply won’t happen with Sir Alex Ferguson at the helm, I would think United supporters should start planning the parade, ensuring the route includes a few passes around The Etihad stadium as well as Patrick Vieira’s personal residence.
Sir Alex Ferguson has once again proven his stunning managerial prowess down the last furlong. United stand 8 points in the clear when less than than four months ago, they trailed City by a whopping 10 points.
While the title race is all but over for this season, don’t expect United to let up. Having been badly beaten by City earlier in the season, expect Ferguson’s men to avenge their loss at The Etihad.
