After getting easily beaten by Sunderland in the FA Cup on Saturday, Arsene Wenger’s 16-year rule as manager of Arsenal looks more uncertain than ever.
According to The Daily Mail, sources at The Emirates have indicated that plans are being discussed to move the Frenchman into a senior management position after what will inevitably be yet another season without winning any type of hardware.
Arsenal’s 4-0 drumming in Milan last week all but sealed their exit from the ever profitable Champions League.
Since the well-known American sports mogul Stan Kroenke bought the club, Arsenal’s new mandate is to become a global brand similar to the likes to Manchester United or Real Madrid. However, if such ambition is to be actualized, the team’s success is imperative and Wenger appears to have clearly dropped the ball in that respect.
As long as Pep Guardiola contract situation is in limbo at Barcelona, Arsene Wenger’s future in London will be up in the air.
Guardiola, who will be out of a contract at the end of the season, vehemently opposes to rule out a move despite pressure from Barcelona’s top brass to sign a fresh contract.
“I can’t be at such a demanding club without being certain that I have the strength to do it,” said Guardiola, when asked about the prospects of inking a new contract. “I still don’t have it clear in mind. When I am sure then the club will know. To renew my contract, I have to feel it. We have been together for four years and the decision needs to be thought out thoroughly.”
